Yeah again it's been some time since I last posted anything but rotting away in some office cubicle takes time and commitment. Apart from that I've been still getting 7 songs, the christbait box set finished as well as trying to open my own micro brewery!!! Here is a download of the song I wrote for my wife's short film (Fortunate Jack) which I may have mentioned earlier.

13.02.2010

Shit!!! It's been that long since I've last bothered to post anything here. Life is just rolling along at it's usual pace. Nothing really new to announce or declare.

Christbait mastering is all done so I'm now compiling all the other crap together and hopefully have a nice little 3 CD box set completed and available by mid this year(I hope). The Budd CD is also done and dusted so myself and the guys will need to shortly sit down and try plan a run of gigs. My next solo release(seven songs) is on track again and hope to also have this released early this year.

In a first for me I will be writing music for a short film that my wife is making. I'm excited by the prospect and time is actually short so I best start dedicating some time and effort into the project.

Other things that have been floating my boat. As usual my homebrewing dominates a far bit of my time as does the drinking of it. I have lately become obsessed by aquaponics and currently in the process of building my own small test set up. Fresh veges, fresh fish and fresh beer. How good!!

A quick update to say that I will be releasing a new solo EP hopefully in the new year titled "seven songs". It contains.....you guessed it... seven songs! All were performed and recorded solely by myself in the garage at my home over the past winter. It's a collection of very minimal and kinda bleak songs that I found interesting. I will hopefully be supporting the release with some live shows which I will be announcing via this site and the myspace site in due course.

Also the new Budd CD - "Jawa" is pressed, printed and in the bag so stay tuned on release and tour date announcements.

Made it back home to OZ after spending 3 and a bit weeks trying not to look like a tourist in New York USA. I'd have to say that I fell in love with the place and look forward to heading back over sometime in the not to distant future with hopefully band in tow. I'd firstly have to say a big special shout out and thankyou the Jahil and Alex who let us crash at their place for the first week and showed us around to many of the sights and sounds of NY.

Mmmm hot dogs.

Managed to catch a Breeders show at the Bowery Ballroom which was a real highlight of the trip. Kim Deal is one of my favorite song writer/musicians ever and seeing her perform live is always a "must do" in my book. I'd have to say I'm a little invigorated by the whole experience and feel suitably motivated into getting straight back to rehearsing a new set with Tom and hitting the road again soon and if possible OS.

Missus and I at the Bowery NY.

I also manage to stumble across a left handed Fender strat (US made 2000 model) which was going for a pretty reasonable price compared to what they go for back home in OZ. I'd always wanted to add a strat to my small collection of guitars so I figured "why not"!

Anyway back to work monday morning, not looking forward to say the least.

Cheers CW

I'll be outta town over late August and early September so if you are thinking of purchasing any stuff online from this site I would suggest waiting till after I'm back.

New free download....customer support experience - demo v1.0 (AKA sealfinger)

Rough demo, stereo mic recording done back in 2004 but in my view captures what i was hearing in my head at the time.

In other news the wife and I are thinking of heading over and spending a few weeks in New York sometime in August. No shows or anything planned, just getting outta OZ and away from the Melbourne winter.

Dern Rutlidge - Supercone promo CD - 1998

When speaking on the phone with Callan recently he reminded me of this CD that I'd forgotten about or more to the point, blocked out. I intensly dislike my vocals and some of the lyric writing from this period but also think some of the songs had promise. It contains all the songs that were actually from 2 versions of this promo CD and were regular staples from our early live shows. I figured I'd compile the lot into one complete download of 8 tracks.....an un-official album!!!

21.05.2009

Uploaded the DernRutlidge demo tape that was released back in 1996..i think?

30.04.2009

My broadband has been fucking up of late, had a slaggin match with jason pc via his blog site and recently purchased two moistboyz records but can't hear em till I buy a new turn table...i want another drink.

22.04.2009

Just a quick update/addition to let you know that there is a really good book out now called, Hi God People - Melbourne music flyers from the late 70's to last week. It was compiled by Lisa Radford and has a few Christbait, Dernrutlidge flyers included. Overall the lay out, design and content is excellent and worthy of your purchase.

Available at places like Metropolis, Readings Polyester, Title, Brunswick St bookstore, missing link, Sunshine & Grease...

16.04.2009

I'd have to say I got an extremely pleasant surprise this morning when I recieved notice and a trophy (pic below) for scoring 2nd place with my Czech (Boh) Pilsner in the pale lager category at the recent 2009 Beerfest brew comp.

13.04.2009

Last nights "Rifferendum" event at the Tote was a hoot although I could say I wasn't overly happy with my own performance. Still had a great time and enjoyed the night in all. Was good to see friends who I hadn't seen in some time as well as people who I didn't personally know but approached me eitherway to say hello and express their fondness for my music that I have produced over the years. I find it an encouraging yet humbling experience.

Will be playing the Tote again on the 25th of April so hopefully I can lift my game a bit.

I've still been working on recording songs for my next release which I'm thinking may be either a double album or two separate releases, still not sure except for the fact that I should have plenty of songs to short list for the project.

I have decided to stop providing Saturday Night Believer as a free download for the time being because I still have quite a number of CD's still available for online purchase. Even though I find it encouraging that a considerable amount of people are regularly downloading this album I should firstly be trying to re-coup my costs on putting out this CD so that I can put any money earned from sales into future releases.

Speaking of CD's the stock levels of both Christbaits - dirtypunkmutha and Sealfingers - customer support experience are pretty low and once they have sold out there is no plan on pressing another run so get in and pick up a copy I guess while you still can.

28.02.2009

After a clean break from all things music over the last 6 months I have jumped back on the horse again and continued writing and making home demos of some new material as well as revisiting some of my older but yet unfinished works. I hope to start rehearsing and eventually have a new album recorded before the year is out.

I have also been updating my website with a new section where you can buy CD's direct from me. Previous releases are availble such as my debut CD "Saturday Night Believer", "Christbaits - dirtypunkmutha" and an extremely limited quantity of the "sealfinger | customer support experience" EP in CD format. The sealfinger EP was never released as a retail item but only as a promo so can be considered a rare pick up for any collectors out there, i guess!?

Budd will be hopefully tweaking the final mastering of our impending release "Jawa" which we hope to have out by mid 2009. Everything is sounding big and heavy with a healthy dose of nice ambient sounds throughout the entire recording. No label has really shown any interest but I figure the guys and I are pretty much set on doing it all ourselves anyway. Tom has been working on some great artwork ideas which both Jez and I have been totally into. A talented bugger that Mr Jackman.

The track listing for Jawa is as follows:

351
Today kills tomorrow
Pull me down
Jawa
Shell
Methanol

It's only 6 tracks but still manages to run out to a healthy 39 minutes.

Budd also look forward to hitting the road in 2009 beginning with a couple of warm up dates in April at iconic venue "The Tote".

gig info here: www.myspace.com/buddmethanol

Anyway must get back to work, hope to see some of you at the Budd shows in April.

Lux Interior, legendary singer and exceptional musical entity of The Cramps passed away.

R.I.P Lux

Other news Budd will be playing a couple of shows in April at The Tote.....more detail to come.

15.01.2009

Happy new year

Just a reminder to everyone out there that I still have plenty of my stuff up on the web available for free download although I'm not sure how long I may continue to do so. Despite averaging about 1780 hits and approximately 200mb downloaded each month over the past 12 months I have managed to only receive about $20 in kind donations and little if any radio airplay!!
I figure that the only way I'm gonna reap any reward from my musical efforts is to hit the rehearsal room again and hit the road again with a new solo album(#3) in 2009.

BTW the budd album is finished, Jeremy just needs to sort out the mastering and who/when will release it so hopefully I'll be on the road again with budd in 2009.

Cheers

Most people who know me will be well aware of my love for beer so it's not surprising I would use my website to promote a worthy cause such as the "Fair Go for Craft Beer" petition.

A Fair Go for Craft Beer - Excise Tax is Killing Craft Beer in Australia!

Australia's small breweries are being strangled by excise tax.
On top of all the usual taxes any small business pays, microbrewers
have to fork out 25% of their sales income straight to the ATO in the
form of excise. How is an industry expected to survive under such a
crippling tax regime?

The Australian Association of
Microbreweries needs your help to persuade the Federal Government to
amend Excise Tax legislation and to give microbrewers a FAIR GO.

GUITARIST WANTED:

I have plans to pull together a band to record and tour my next solo release and would like to put the call out for a second guitarist. I'm after someone who is basically awesome!! Versatile, has own 'reliable' gear + transport, can learn and retain songs quickly. Basically someone not like my good self! If you play anything like Lyle Workman, Rich Gilbert or Chris Cheney then you are most likely the perfect candidate. (Actually if you are Chris Cheney and reading this then please contact me) Backing vocal ability an advantage.

Lastly I don't have any money but you are quite welcome to drink my quality home brew.

I can be contacted at this address: contact@craigwestwood.com

Note: Yngwie Malmstien, or Racer X frett wanker types need not apply.

Hi

It's been some time since I've been back here providing updates but I figure I really haven't had much to bring to the table news wise and honestly haven't really felt compelled to do so. Since youngbreeder came to a screeching halt I'm choosing to take some time away from music despite having quite a considerable amount of material recorded and not recorded.

I am still involved, commited and contributing to Budd so I guess you could say I haven't gone completely cold turkey. We have pretty much mixed the new album and should hopefully have it out by years end 2008.

No surprise to anyone who knows me well enough, I'm currently keeping myself occupied studying beer and brewing which has been a passion of mine for some years now.

Anyway thanks to the people out there who actually liked what music I did make and chose not to totally ignore it.

Well my wife and I made it back from Europe in one piece and we had an awesome time. It was also great catching up with old friends and making new ones along the way. We would especially like to thank Anna and her family for the amazing hospitality shown to us when staying, we can't thank you enough.

I have also posted what will most likely be the last song from "The demo sessions" cause I think the songs are probably just getting completely silly and figure i should stop here. I hope you've enjoyed them as much as I've cringed listening back to them.

cheers

16.09.07

As promised in earlier mail out's I have posted the October installment of my "demo sessions". I head over to Europe in a weeks time with my loving wife for our belated honeymoon (no not a gigging tour) and hope to make it back in one piece and not up to the eye balls in debt.

31.07.07

yo dicklips, I've uploaded another demo session track for you to get ur teeth into.

Youngbreeder head into the studio late August to start recording new stuff for a new album.....getting excited about this cause i really like the songs.

Budd have been taking a break since the clutch tour and plan to pick up where we left off writing, rehearsing and recording the new album.

04.06.07

Hiya

CRAIG WESTWOOD "The demo sessions"

I'm going to be uploading a new song every month till the end of 2007. These songs are demo's that I roughly recorded over the last 4 -5 years that never quite found a place in my other projects. In my opinion some of these are the stupidest songs I've ever written but I still can't help but like them in some perverse kinda way.

Anyway for now I hope you enjoy these first couple.

Make sure you pop by again next month for another instalment.

in other news....

Budd just finished up supporting Clutch on their 2007 Australian tour along with Melbourne's finest, Peeping Tom and no, not Mike Patton's Peeping tom but rather the real one which is far superior an more worthy of your attention. I'd have to say I had a great time and a pretty good tour. Clutch and co treated everyone well, very accommodating, no arrogance etc just a bunch of hard working folk who love what they do. It was an honour to share the stage with em.

On the Youngbreeder front we are planning on record a swag of new songs (15+) hopefully very soon and then hit the road once we have something for all good folk to listen to.

cheers cw

24.03.07

Some good gig news to announce which will be keeping me a little busy.

Budd are supporting CLUTCH on ther'ye Australian tour.

Tour dates:

May 31 2007: The Zoo BRISBANE, Queensland
Jun 1 2007: The Metro Theatre SYDNEY, New South Wales
Jun 2 and 3 2007: The HI FI MELBOURNE, Victoria.

My other band "Youngbreeder" will also be playing a headline show on April 21st.

07.02.07

This is a song I recorded a couple of years ago that I never actually had time, money or effort to really follow through , finish and release on any legit format.

It's a tad hap hazard, rough around the edges and probably shouldn't ever see the light of day. Weird thing is I tend to find myself from time to time going back and having another listen so I figure why not just post it for everyone else to either love or hate.

enjoy??

The friends we knew. 4.2mb

Tickets are available @ www.webtickets.com.au, missinglink records or polyester records.

09.12.06

I will be performing with bands, Youngbreeder and Budd on the below dates.

Feb, 3rd 2007 at DEVILS KITCHEN - Oz Stoner Punk Rock Music Fest C.E.R.E.S. Community Environment Park, Brunswick, Brunswick, Victoria.

I've also killed the below Triple J unearthed link due to lack of interest on my part as well as the music listening publics part. I just don't think the "cats of Australia have made they're choice."

On the "Youngbreeder" front, I've uploaded some new mp3's as free ear food at the youngbreeder.com and myspace sites.

31.07.06

Thanks to everyone who came down to the budd gig on friday night. The band were really stoked about the turn out as well as us being satisfied with our performance. It was one of those gig's that remind you of why you play music in the first place. The night was also bitter sweet with a good friend of mine who made it down to the show passed away the following morning. He was an important part of my circle of close friends and I will deeply miss him.

I'm glad I got to see you one last time before you left us.

Hi all, it's been a while since I posted anything here and from that it may appear that I haven't been doing anything. The truth is that I have been so busy writing and recording with youngbreeder, still tracking and mixing the sealfinger album, rehearsing and writing with budd and last but not least of all the christbait anthology. I haven't had the time to add to this blog.

Anyway, must get back into it....cheers cw

Happy new year everyone.

It was great to see such a good turn out for the Dernrutlidge reunion gig at the ding dong lounge. The night was a sell out event and I was informed by the venue that we broke the bar record with the most booze ever consumed since the bars opening. What an honour, and it was also an honour to have the mighty "Legends of Motorsport" and "Into the red" playing on the bill.

The guy's and myself will take a couple of weeks off before we hook back into writing and rehearsing under our new indentity, "youngbreeder". We probaly won't be doing any gigs until mid 2006 but you will be able to check in and get updates of we are up to at www.youngbreeder.com

You may have also heard that I have taken up bass duties for the band "Budd". Tom Jackman has also come on board playing drums and we have already had a few excellent jam sessions.

cheers for now.

Hi, I've just added an old (dernrutlidge) interview in the press section that i did with obscene zine back in 2002....happy reading.

03.07.05

I have added yet another free track for download from my debut album . enjoy!

Here some pic's of my latest IPA (india pale ale) and Stout that I'm currently enjoying.

I have been making good progress on the sealfinger album and have all the guitars tracked. Now I just have to do the vocals and then mix the whole f#%ing thing.

21.06.05

Hi folks. Yes it's been quite a while since I put anything up here but really nothing has been happening apart from it being winter which is the best time to brew larger with my home brewery.

Since releasing the album I have sold about 10 copies and have about 300 + still sitting in boxes. Lucky I didn't quit my day job huh? Played a sealfinger gig a short while back with Tom Jackman and considering we only had one practice we got through the set without any mistakes. People don't seem to be getting their heads around the whole sealfinger thing. I guess I should finsh the recording soon, get it out and let them absorb it a little.

Guess I'm kinda at my musical crossroad and not sure what the hell I'm doing. I do have alot of songs almost or partially finished but I've been finding it hard to follow through with anything anymore considering the response I got from the last solo effort. I really enjoyed making that album. I did have a guy come up to me recently at a blood duster gig who said that he purchased my album and really loved it. It kinda made my day because honestly i don't think anyone has sat down a listened to it all the way through. Another person I know who put his support behind me and even listed the album in his top 100 of 2004 was Richard Moffet of 3RRR FM. Eternal gratitude.

I have also posted another free mp3 in the download section.

anyway cheers for now.

Well with 2004 almost done and an album behind me this year has flown by???? Remember my album will be an excellent xmas gift idea. Sealfinger will be going into the studio late December to start tracking for an album. Tom and myself have over an hours worth of stuff to get thru and I'm hoping to have it all finished by mid 2005...lets hope. I have also started writing and recording demos for my follow up solo album which I hope to eventually play live. Well it looks like my album is being completely ignored by every single music street press publication and radio station in the country. I guess having15 years in the australian music scene/industry don't count for much these days. I figure that the album must be either misunderstood or just pretty crap. I would hazzard a guess at the latter but at least all is not bad. I have been making some wicked beer at the moment and will endevour to drown my sorrows in it.

Thanks again to the Australian music industry for it's never ending support?

Note:CSE play the town hall hotel on the 12.11.04

04.10.04

I'm pleased to announce that the new Craig Westwood + The Godless Few debut album,"Saturday Night Believer". Is OUT NOW and distributed by the kind folks at MGM distribution.

Press Release:

After departing his previous band, "Dern Rutlidge". Best known for it’s Triple J radio hit "Lines on the table". Craig Westwood locked himself into a small room of his Melbourne home for 2 years and wrote, recorded and self produced what has now become his debut solo album. Inspired by bouts of domestic bliss, depression, isolation, alcoholism and self loathing the resulting album is a dark and moody portal into the heart of a reluctant office worker.

Copies can be purchased at any good music retailer throughout Australia or visit the order section of this website for links to some online retailers who will be happy to handle local and international orders.

I will also hopefully have a digital distrobution deal sorted out soon so that you can download the album from places like the Apple iTunes stores etc...

21.09.04

Saturday nights gig opening for brant bjork + the bros was most excellent. The guys themselves were extremley nice people and full of praise for CSE which completely took me by surprise. The supportive cheers from the punters who made the effort to come down early too the gig and check us out was also great to see and hear.

It was a hectic week leading up to Saturday involing a death in my family, me fighting off a bad cold and tom fighting off a hang over. All in all we were greatfull for the show and it felt good to be back playing my 3rd gig in about 2 + years since leaving Dern Rutlidge. All I need to do now is to snare some more gigs.......

I have also added some live CSE photos which were taken by anthony moore.

14.09.04

i love beer. i love it so much i brew my own and have been doing so on and off for the last 4 years. here is a picture of my fermenter bubbling away a batch of coppers pale ale, international series.

I have brewed quite a few coppers beers before but not this particular one so i'm quite interested on how it will turn out. i have just bottled my first stout but have another 2 weeks till i can give it a taste.

i'm currently home sick with a cold trying to get better for the upcoming brant bjork gig this saturday at the corner hotel....fingers crossed.

anyway i'll keeping being sick and listening to my beer fermenter going blop, blop, blop all day long.

Greetings all...album is in the can, finished, done and although I was expecting to have it out by now....it's not..... as of yet? Still getting printing and duplication quotes. I have uploaded the second single (body full of holes) from the album as a free download. This song was inspired by the TV show, "the sopranos".

I have been busy writing and rehersing new songs for the follow up album with Tom Jackman and things are coming along great. Completely different vibe to the first album....very grounded but yet fucked up in a violent way??? Because the new stuff is performed just as a 2 piece it will make it easier for Tom and myself to do live shows. I pretty much gave up on trying to put together a band for the saturday album cause it just got way hard and expensive to keep going.

Anyway gotz ta go...cheers

The album is finally done, mastered and ready for pressing. I am still finishing of the artwork and hope to have it out very soon.

The single pretty much stiffed. didn't get any airplay, got shit all if any reviews and was basically ignored. cool.....people hate me.
